Gladiator Sandal

Have you ever wondered where the gladiator sandal actually came from and why it is still so popular in fashion?
The sandal, which started as the most basic and utilitarian type of footwear—something solid strapped to the foot that offered protection—quickly became a marker of sex, status, rank, and fashion. When depicted in ancient (and modern) art, they are often worn by gods. And, in ancient Rome, the street of cordwainers was identified by a statue of Apollo, their patron deity.
Among plebeians, footwear became a marker of status. A lady of rank might be accompanied on an outing with a maid carrying a sandalthique, or carpet specially designed to carry a variety of shoes for different occasions. Just as today, sandals might be elaborate, brightly coloured, high or low. (Borrelli 2015)
Though a popular beach, resort shoe, the kind that you might pick up from a local handcrafter while on vacation in a seaside town and treasure as a memento of a sunny escape—the gladiator didn’t really get the full fashion treatment until the sixties. The glad drew attention to ever-rising hemlines and to newly exposed legs and was appropriated by Space Age and utopian hippie designers alike who were attracted to its classical roots for different reasons( Borrelli 2015)

Every girls needs that one sexy black dress

The Little Black Dress – The little black dress is often credited to Chanel founder, Coco Chanel, dating back to 1926. The concept was radical at the time since black was considered a colour for mourning rather than for fashion. Now, the piece has gone on to become a staple in almost every woman’s closet. A classic sheath dress like the one worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast in Tiffany’s or something more modern like a ace-adorned dress is the great way to go and can be accessorized almost endlessly.

I personally have more than one black dress in my closet. Honestly a black dress can change one’s life, one it makes you look smaller and all the right places, two it gets you the right attention you need. Also styling a black dress is not that complicated but it should not be overdone also.

African Fashion going International

African fashion going international, we are honestly painting the fashion industry with our beautiful print and colours.
Zanjoo is a fashion hot spot for the girl who wants a unique, colourful, exotic, fashion forward wardrobe that accentuates and compliments her beauty and fierceness.  Work It!
Founded by fashion and lifestyle blogger Peeks of the MO-AM Network, the idea was conceived when her and her partner Mr X were discussing the need for a one stop shop that sells all things fabulous, African inspired and complimentary to the average dope girls wardrobe…. so here it is.
The main reason both Mr X and Peeks are excited about this venture is they are embracing their heritage of Nigerian/Yoruba decent. Both have family from the beautiful Lagos area.

Spring 2015

Okay, so spring is here but that does not mean colour blocking right. In this blog we are going to look at what to wear this spring. Shirt dresses are the easiest to style, but it is very important not to overdo it, just pair it up with a pair of tommies or white all-stars.

summer dresses

Summer is finally here, I mean I know am excited to show off my beautiful thick legs, which have become light from all the winter outfits. What’s really fun about summer is that it does not limit you from trying out new outfits and so on. One of my biggest reasons why I love summer is because I can simply wear my summer dresses, it’s as easy is that. I do not stress about any combination of some sort, all I do slip it to that thigh long dress, or that short beautiful floral dress and just pair it up with a cute pair of sandals or all stars. So enjoy summer because it makes fashion so easy.

Who is my favorite fashion icon

So who is my favorite icon, really had question to answer, but it has to Bonang Matheba my Queen B, simply because she is classy, elegant, beautiful and rocks every outfit she puts on I mean you cannot hate on that.
A good description of her success found in the Street Fashion blog,
“From Radio DJ to executive producer at her own entertainment company, Bonang Matheba, better known as "Queen B" is definitely blooming on the South African "It" list this year.  She recently added Top Billing to her success list when she appeared on the lifestyle and travel show as the newest member of the top billing family.  Being the most followed female in South Africa, with a huge following of 316290 twitter followers, already says a bit about her hustle in media and the style icon she has become to many”.

Since this is a fashion blog, I want to get straight into her style choices and who inspires her the most.  According to an interview I've seen recently, her biggest style icon at the moment is Olivia Palermo who's also a huge NYC fashion socialite who dresses to kill.  A part from being dressed by talented SA designer 'Gert Johan Coetzee' for Red Carpet Events, Bonang herself has some serious killer day to day style as she was awarded for 'Most stylish media personality not too long ago.  Being so well known in the twitter verse, she's often tweeting pictures of what she wore, almost daily.  I love that she uses accessories as a main key in her look almost over powering the look itself, but keeping it casual and raw at the same time.

Why women love make up: the little secrete

Makeup is an important accessory that can help you look and feel your best.   Remember your true beauty is what’s on the inside, but it is beneficial to make the packaging pleasant as well.  Your appearance is what attracts people to you, then once they get to know you they can see your heart.  It doesn’t work in the reverse.
It starts with the image you have of yourself in mind.  Then you transform that image onto your face.  The art of applying makeup is tricky business tough. When it is done right, makeup magically conceals flaws and imperfections and enhances your best facial features all at the same time.  Makeup can transform you into any look you want, with infinite possibilities.
Maybe you are the type that doesn’t wear makeup at all because you think you don’t have nice facial features to emphasize anyway.  You might think makeup makes you look sleazy. Or you think because you don’t look like a movie star you shouldn’t wear any?
Well let me tell you that movie stars don’t have naturally great looks either!  Makeup is the key to make a Plan Jane into a Gorgeous Star.
Just look at some of these Stars without their makeup, and tell me they look better than you!   Makeup is a tool, you just need to know how to use it to your benefit.

For the love of Blazers

Blazers, Okay so people really do not embrace the difference a blazer can actually make in an outfit, to be honest I also did not until one day I run out of ideas on what to actually wear, I was wearing blue denim jeans with a simple white vest, then guess what I decided to try on a blazer and guess what, it made such a difference. I loved my outfit. Give it a try and trust me you will not be disappointed.

Things girls love to wear, that guys hate

This actually made me laugh, so I was looking around for things to actually blog about and one thing that came to mind is, what are the things that girls wear that guys actually hate.

Uggs, how can a guy hate Uggs?  They are so, so comfortable? Well ladies, when you pull on the comfort, they do actually hate it. Uggs were at the top of the fashion trends list that men hate. Remember that this fall when you are pulling them out of your closet.
Neon Anything, Okay, so this is one of the few fashion trends that I agree with.

Neon anything should be kept to a minimum I think (bracelets, sometimes necklaces). You should never wear a bright, neon top or bright neon jeans. It's just … not in good taste ladies, I promise.

Jeggings, I’m actually surprised by this one. The reasoning behind this one is because guys’ thing that jeggings are stupid. Personally, I don't own any jeggings, however I have seen girls wear them before – and I have to say that I agree. Ditch the jeggings ladies, your man will be much happier!

Too much make up, Men like make up – sometimes. They even like when you go without make up. When you have too much make up on though? That's when they hate it. If you have to wear make up to feel pretty, keep it to a minimum, just some lip gloss, light eyeliner, eye shadow and some powder. Leave the heavy make up behind!

Leg warmers, I had absolutely no idea that this was one of the fashion trends that was still around. I hate leg warmers. No. I mean, I hate them, despise them, and would never wear them. I think that they should have stayed in the eighties and unless you are a dancer, you probably don't need to wear them out in public.

Harem Pants, Have you ever seen harem pants? I have and I have no idea who is bringing this fashion trend back, but stop it! They are horrible! They are so baggy around the hips and so tight around the calves and … well the whole thing is just awkward. I can see why this is one of the fashion trends that men absolutely hate!

Why i love fashion

I love fashion because for me it’s a form of communication, I express my emotions through what I wear. But I just love fashion because I enjoy just dressing up and obviously shopping. Sometimes fashion for more is a good way of distress. I also enjoy looking at fashion blogs, sometimes it’s just to simply steal ideas. Fashion also can say a lot about peoples personalities, for example a person who like wearing the colour purple is said to be sexually frustrated, well how true is that I do not know, hence fashion can never be limited.
